The Smut Editor: Crafting Smarter, Sexier Stories
The pages are written. The characters are real. Now you’re ready to take your erotica, smut, or romance to the next level.
You want to ground those stories in truth. To give voice to characters exploring kink, BDSM dynamics, queerness, alternative relationship structures, and sexuality in a way that feels real and resonates with your readers.
Nice to meet you, I’m the Smut Editor.
I help writers like you, especially ones hot off the presses of their sexuality journey and unexplored territory, craft narratives that both sell and stick.
How I Became the Smut Editor
Before diving into publishing, I was singing my heart out in musical theatre productions in sunny California. Then I found new pieces of my soul as I fell into the worlds of sex shops and bookstores in New York City. I learned two major things throughout those experiences: the power of storytelling and how important authentic conversations about sexuality are.
I started my editorial company in 2018, first as a copyeditor and ghostwriter. As I eased into queer and erotic fiction as a focus, I struggled with the growing market. Authors were finally exploring sexuality and BDSM in mainstream media, but let’s just say they were still working out the kinks in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and depth potential. Sexuality is a powerful tool, one that takes handling with care.
And so, following a global pandemic that made fictionalized connection crucial and another cross-country move, I’ve blended my love of storytelling and sex education into what can now be known as Smut Ed. Now I live in the Midwest with my polycule and fur babies, and in addition to helping authors write their books, I’m finally crafting my own.
And yes, of course, there’s smut.
Why Smut Ed?
Sex is more than just a plot point. It’s about identity, connection, exploration, and power. It’s time to give your readers a taste of the full spectrum of the human experience, in all its spicy glory.
I talk more about the importance of sex education and how it can apply to writers on my Substack.
My work combines deep knowledge of sexuality, kink, BDSM, and polyamory with neurodivergent and queer perspectives. I also help writers address common misconceptions, avoid harmful tropes, and ground their fiction in respectful, relatable truths.
Let’s Work Together
I offer all kinds of services, but here are some ideas, if you’re trying to find your fit.
- Quickie Consults: I can help you fine-tune a scene or concept to get your gears unstuck ASAP.
- Story Coaching: We dive into the manuscript together, breaking down where the breakdowns are, and I help walk you through building dynamics of all kinds that shine with authenticity.
- Deep-Dive Edits: I work on a full text of your manuscript and go line for line to polish the story until it’s ready to make waves that don’t stop crashing.
If you’re still considering working with me, here’s why I shine: I’ve been in the aisles of sex shops and the page trenches of romance books, both spicy and slippery. My mission revolves around crafting books that change people’s lives, so let’s get yours out there.
Ready to get your sex-positive, authentic story to sell and stand out? Let’s connect and bring it to life.
